Join us as we recap another fantastic Grand Rounds session. We started off with our longitudinal leadership curriculum, specifically focusing on recruitment and building a team. This was led by two prominent leaders in our very own emergency department- Drs. Fermann and LaFollette. Next, we join Dr. Finney on a journey as she reflects on the relationships we build with our patients and their families, as well as providing insight on how to cope with the grief that we may face following the most difficult cases. Lastly, Drs. Chhabria, Davis, and Gobble, help us prepare for the upcoming ITE exam by providing us with useful quick hits relating to orthopedic injuries, PEM, and toxicology.

This week, we started off with an excellent journal club led by Drs. Ijaz and Mullen discussing interventions aimed at improving access to primary care from the Emergency Department and then followed along with Drs. Ferreri and Skrobut as they battled out a case of mysterious altered mental status during the crowd favorite, CPC. Dr. Pulvino reminded us that not all rashes are simple through her case follow up and Dr. Gobble took us on a deep dive of the diagnosis and management of gastroparesis and cyclic vomiting syndrome. Finally, we closed out the day with lessons in nasal endoscopy and cricothyrotomy from the airway guru himself, Dr. Steven Carleton.

What a fabulous and jam-packed Grand Rounds it was! Drs. Knight, Roche, and Freiermuth kicked us off with fantastic attending case follow-ups with pearls for physicians of all levels. Drs. Frankenfeld and Hill duked it out in a fascinating case of iron toxicity. Dr. Thompson expertly led us through UC’s new model for patient safety. Dr. Freiermuth brought us back to the basics of refining our history taking skills with tips on approaching sensitive topics. Dr. Pulvino walked us through a very difficult presentation of simultaneous stroke and STEMI in her R3 Taming the SRU.
