Next up, Dr. Kein talks about the difficulty of navigating grief while completing residency training. Dr. Hill introduces use to research topics in the field of medical education. Our faculty who trained at other institutions, Drs. Adan and Lang, highlight different regional practice pattern variations and the evidence behind them. Meanwhile, Dr. Roche helps us learn how to better care for our female patients in the community. Lastly, we wrapped up with a joint lecture with the Cincinnati Children’s PEM program to learn out handling pediatric foreign bodies in the ED.

This week was jam pack in Grand Rounds. We covered best practice tips for POCUS and Cardiac Arrest with Dr. Stolz. Dr. Pensak talked with us about the Emergency Department Implications of the Dobbs v Jackson. We buffed up our teaching skills with Dr. Santen and “Not another Boring Lecture”. Dr. Roche and Wilderness Medicine Faculty taught us how to improvise important medical equipment. To end the day, Dr. Kiser showed us how to better care for and treat the pain of patients with chronic medical conditions.

Grand Rounds Recap 8.2.17

This week was filled with lots of high yield quick hit Grand Rounds sessions. Dr. Stolz kicked it off with her first official lecture as UC EM's Ultrasound Director with a talk on how to use ultrasound in resuscitation of the shock patient. Next Dr. Knight went over some procedural complications and then switched gears to pearls on how to give a stellar lecture. Dr. Lagasse walked us through a case of ascending cholangitis followed by Drs. Colmer, Soria and Continenza who led small groups focused on care of the geriatric patient. Dr. Toth followed with management of eye complaints in the community and Dr. Shaw wrapped things up with an update on the opioid epidemic in Ohio.
