Next up, Dr. Kein talks about the difficulty of navigating grief while completing residency training. Dr. Hill introduces use to research topics in the field of medical education. Our faculty who trained at other institutions, Drs. Adan and Lang, highlight different regional practice pattern variations and the evidence behind them. Meanwhile, Dr. Roche helps us learn how to better care for our female patients in the community. Lastly, we wrapped up with a joint lecture with the Cincinnati Children’s PEM program to learn out handling pediatric foreign bodies in the ED.

In this week’s Grand Rounds, Dr. Laurence led us through an incredible and education Morbidity and Mortality Conference, Drs. Gillespie and Continenza worked through a dramatic case combining vision changes and rash, Dr. Wright reminded us to not forget the esophagus in our patients with chest pain and Dr. Connelly gave a fantastic overview of EMS provider education and systems structure in her R4 Capstone. Finally, our incredible visiting professor, Dr. Megan Rybarcyzk gave us insight into building an emergency medicine education program in the midst of a pandemic and provides tips and tricks for those seeking a career in global health.

We had another exemplary installment of Grand Rounds this week that started with Attending Case Followup with Drs. Lang, Baez, and Paulsen. Then we had some top-notch review of core curriculum with Dr. Winslow and the Alvarado Score for appendicitis, Drs. Meigh and Klaszky on food impactions and esophageal foreign bodies, and Drs. Comiskey and Nagle on D-dimer. Finally, Dr. Nagle gave us an overview of the foundations of evidence-based medicine with his R4 capstone.
