It was another riveting week of Grand Rounds here in Cincinnati! Drs. Kate Connelly, Shawn Hassani, Allie Hunt and Eddie Irankunda kicked us off with a high stakes simulation case and discussion of aortic and vascular emergencies. Dr. Irankunda then reflected on his journey through residency via the filter of the 1990's classic TV show, ER, with many life lessons along the way. After a brief operations update with Dr. Fermann, we finished up with a case-based discussion of evaluation of vomiting in pediatric patients during our monthly combined conference with our PEM colleagues from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

This was a great week of Grand Rounds with a number of interdisciplinary presentations. The week started off with Dr. Neel presenting about common neurologic complaints in the ED in our first EM-Neurology combined lecture for the year. Dr. Jarrell then presented her R4 Case Follow Up lecture on a case of blunt pancreatic injury in non-accidental trauma. Dr. Wyrick, from the Department of Orthopedics, talked about his experiences on his global health trip to Tanzania. Finally, the week wrapped up with Drs. Iparraguirre, Jensen, and Lane leading small group workshops on orthopedic injuries.

We are excited to share our latest installment of the Grand Rounds Recap with you! Dr. Stettler opened the day with a discussion on leadership styles and how they affect our practice in the emergency department. Next up was Dr. Sabedra with a riveting case of new onset heart failure and acute ischemic stroke in a patient in his twenties. Dr. Berger then gave us a shot to the gut, in a good way, with a lecture on colitis. We then delved into the world of pediatrics with a lecture by Dr. Gray who helps us standardize our approach to evaluating for the possibility of child abuse. Dr. Hughes and Dr. Gottula then ended the day with a practice changing summary of the current literature and a new pathway for the management of NSTEMI.
