Extra! Extra! We had excellent content this week in Grand Rounds. Dr. Paulsen started us off with discussing the difference in generational and gender-based communication approaches in our quarterly Leadership Curriculum. Drs. Frankenfeld and Ijaz then expertly discussed their new status epilepticus algorithm in QI/KT. Dr. Hill discussed his passion for diltiazem use in A.fib with RVR in his attending case follow up. Dr. Martella educated us on the evidence behind the most common medications given for renal colic in the ED during his R1 Clinical Treatment. Lastly, Drs. Broadstock and Lang battled it out in CPC involving a case of thyroid storm.

Dr. Dave Thompson then led us through the latest installment of the quality improvement series with insights for how to lead QI initiatives. Dr. Crawford reviewed tick-borne illnesses in her R1 clinical knowledge presentation, and Dr. Modi discussed highlights of management and prognostication of refractory v-fib arrest. Finally, the Air Care team brought us up to speed on a wealth of topics in this edition of the Air Care Grand Rounds series.

This week featured an all-start lineup of resident lectures. Dr. Golden started us off with an amazing M&M, followed by Dr. Mullen enlightening us on eating disorders and the management in the ED. Finally Dr. Goff, hit it home with review of pneumonia severity scores and their clinical context.

In this week's Grand Rounds, we led with our first Morbidity and Mortality conference of the year. Dr. Lagasse walked us through cognitive biases, the management of early obstetric emergencies, and the management of skin and soft tissue infections in the diabetic foot. In our leadership curriculum, Drs Hill and Stettler discussed the fundamentals of being a leader, and we got to hear from a panel of accomplished physicians within our department about their own leadership journey. Finally, in our Consultant of the Month series, Dr. Martha Ferguson discussed the management of ano-rectal conditions in the Emergency Department.
