In our first ever teleconferenced Grand Rounds - this week Dr. Kathryn Banning presented us with opportunities to improve the care we deliver in our monthly morbidity and mortality conference. Then, our panel of expert clinicians and self-aware humans engaged us all in a discussion of wellness and longevity that was at times vulnerable and candid, but also enlightening from start to finish. Finally, we learned more about radio operations and reflected on both failures and victories in HEMS CQI cases with our Air Care leadership team.

Dr. Ham led off this week’s Grand Rounds reviewing cases from the month of November for our monthly Morbidity and Mortality conference. Dr. Chuko then led us through a deep dive on the diagnosis and treatment of male genitourinary disorders and was followed by Dr. Frankenfeld who led our small group discussion on STEMI equivalents. A battle of minds ensued between Dr. Gawron and Dr. Betz of an interesting case of traumatic rhabdomyolysis. Finally, Dr. Crook reviewed all of the latest important changes to the southwest Ohio EMS protocol.

This week started with a great Morbidity and Mortality Conference with Dr. Ham. Drs. Li, Makinen, Mand, and Skrobut then led small group workshops on HEENT emergencies. Following this, Dr. Harty led a fascinating discussion about a patient with Carotid Blowout Syndrome and Dr. Lagasse presented some of her work on trauma care and prevention from a Global Health perspective. The week wrapped up with Dr. LaFollette discussing arthrocentesis and joint loading in the emergency department.
