Dr. Ashley Shreves from Ochsner Medical Center led off Grand Rounds this week with a great lecture on why Emergency Medicine physicians should be good at Palliative Care and then taught us a step-wise approach to code status discussions in the Emergency Department. Drs. Ronan and Kreitzer brought us the latest installment of the Leadership Curriculum, where we learned about and practiced different styles of communication.

We learned about injury management in resource-limited settings during Global Health Grand Rounds with Drs. Roche, Lagasse, Teuber. Dr. Soria and Dr. Riddle gave us their R2 and R4 case follow-ups, respectively.

This week, Dr. Palmer updated us on operations within the department, and dropped some stroke knowledge with his case follow up of altered mental status in a sickle cell patient. Drs. Scupp and Merriam presented cases on pediatric headache and hypothermia, respectively. Dr. Fananapazir tackled etiologies of fever including UTI and Kawasaki in our combined EM/PEDS lecture. We were honored to receive guest speaker Dr. Catherine Marco from Wright State University, who is senior member of the executive committee of ABEM and lectured on ethical issues of resuscitation.
